Abstract:The study of modern Chinese literature in the United States starts with C.T.Hsias monograph A History of Modern Chinese Fiction and continues through the efforts of scholars such as Leo Ou-fan Lee,Julia Lin,who have established modern Chinese literature as a “legitimate” field of inquiry in American Sinology.Since the 1980s,the field has gone through periods of rapid growth during which a new generation of scholars, benefiting from the explosion of Theory and its expanded notion of textuality in particular, have made significant advances in the understanding of modern and contemporary Chinese literature writers and their works.
