    Abstract:

In accordance with the consistent coupled method ( Consistent Coupled Method, CCM ) proposed by the author, and by combining the wind loads distribution by wind tunnel tests, the influence of structural dynamic characteristics of wind-induced vibrations for cooling towers under strong wind loads were investigated. For simplified structure models with different base frequencies and damping ratios, the response simulations of wind-induced vibration, such as background term, resonant term, cross term and wind-induced vibration coefficients, were performed. And then, the mechanism of wind-induced vibration for large cooling towers with interference effect was studied. From the simulations, some features of base frequencies, damping ratio and interference effect were found. The results in this paper are useful for both the promotion of the understanding of resonant vibration and the avoidance and control of this kind of vibration.
