Performance Analysis of Mixed PLC/FSO Communication Systems

    Abstract:

    Due to the short transmission distance of power line communication,a mixed power line and freespace optical(PLC/FSO)communication system with the decode and forward protocol is studied. First,the math? ematical models for the mixed system is established by assuming the PLC and the FSO channels following the lognormal and Gamma-Gamma distributions,respectively,where the pointing error in the FSO link is also considered. Then,closed-form expressions for the outage probability,bit error rate,and the channel capacity are derived. Fi? nally,simulation results are provided to verify our analytical results. Numerical results show that impulsive noise, turbulence,and the pointing error affect the system performance.
